World class unicyclists to compete at Giants Ridge on Wednesday as part of Unicon21

Giants Ridge ready to host Unicon21 event on Wednesday

Some of the world's best unicyclists practiced at Giants Ridge on Monday, ahead of the Unicon21 event on Wednesday.

The mountain bike trails at Giants Ridge will be part of a very unique event on Wednesday.

This will be where the very best unicyclists compete in the mountain discipline of the 21st Unicycle World Championships, also known as Unicon21.

It hasn’t been the United States for 22 years.

Downhill participants will showcase their athleticism and precision with a test of speed and ability to handle rugged terrain while riding downhill. The Cross-Country portion of the event features an off-road distance race that challenges a rider’s fitness and ability to ride fast on rough terrain.

“We are honored to host such a unique event at Giants Ridge,” said Benji Neff, Director of Mountain Sports at Giants Ridge. “Unicon21 will be an exciting showcase of unicycling talent from around the world, and we look forward to welcoming participants and spectators alike.”

The race director was out on the downhill course on Monday, making sure it was as difficult as possible.

This year the prestigious Unicon21 event is based in Bemidji and will gather over 1,500 unicyclists from across the globe to compete in various disciplines, highlighting the diversity and skill within the sport.
