Wrenshall Farm animal neglect allegations and investigation

A Carlton County farmer appeared in a court hearing regarding alleged animal neglected. The civil proceeding was held remotely, via zoom,. The Carlton County attorney said the 12 horses seized by the sheriff’s office on September 5th. The Wrenshall farm animal neglect allegations have been reoccurring for the past few years from concerned citizens.

According to court records, there was no food or water for animals when Carlton County sheriff and deputy made a visit on June 23rd. One of the Wrenshall farm animal neglect allegations include cows have been roaming county road 4 trying to get into neighbor’s properties. This allegation is according to one of the agents involved in the civil case.

Back in 2019, there were several protestors at the Wrenshall farm where the farmer allegedly neglected 60 horses. Even though the horses have been seized, the Assistant Carlton County attorney said there are no criminal charges filed.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office investigation is still ongoing to determine whether or not the Wrenshall Farm animal neglect allegations can be verified. This would turn the civil case into a criminal case.

Carlton County District Court Judge Rebekka Lynn Stumme said the Assistant County Attorney and the Wrenshall farmer have two weeks to prepare their evidence. The next civil court hearing will take place November 2 at the Carlton County court house.
