Zenith Bookstore mural livens up West Duluth

A new mural is being painted on the side of the Zenith Bookstore, drawing in onlookers as 1st time Muralist Jonathan Thunder takes the reigns.

“This is actually my first mural of this scale so I’ve been going about it really methodically,” says Jonathan.

Jonathan and his wife have done literary work before and developed a relationship with the owners of Zenith Bookstore. Store Manager Sarah Brown says that because of Jonathan’s work as an illustrator, he was the first choice to be the muralist.

Brown says, “We’ve carried children’s picture books that he’s illustrated, we’ve carried his wife’s cookbook, so he’s a friend of the store. And his artwork is amazing.”

Thunder says, “When a community is healthy enough to support the visual arts by putting murals or sculptures. you know that sort of means to me that that’s a healthy place to live.”

The mural is said to be done sometime during the start in July.
