A dedication of seat belt safety signs in remembrance of lost father
Ava Jaus goes to school at Assumption Catholic Church. Her dad, Nate, died in an accident back in December of 2023. He was not wearing his seat belt. Since then, his wife and Ava have been advocates for seatbelt safety.
The parents in the education group at Assumption wanted to do something to support Ava, and honor Nate. They came up with these signs to help people choose to buckle up. A young girl decorates the front, reminiscent of Ava herself, as it reads “Buckle Up, Seat Belt Save Lives – in remembrance of Nate Jaus.” Stars all over the sign represent Ava and her dad and their memory of them stargazing together.
Ava’s mom and Nate’s wife, Hannah, talked about how they wanted to positively impact their community. “You know, again we went through something that nobody ever wants to go through”, she said. “So, if we can bring awareness to the situation and maybe just even encourage one person one father one mother, one. Grandparent to wear their seat belt.”
They are also proud that Nate was an organ donor and want people to remember the importance of organ donations. Hannah and Ava have heard from many of the people who were saved and helped by Nate’s organs.
Three signs are placed in various spots in the school’s parking lot. While about 20 posters fill the hallways, gymnasium, and classrooms.
