Celebrate National Train Day on Saturday
There is a special celebration happening on Saturday at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. It’s National Train Day from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event will celebrate when Leland Stanford drove in the Golden Spike that symbolized the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad 155 years ago.
The Museum, along with the North Shore Scenic Railroad will tell historic stories of the men and women who built the railroads that built our great nation. They’ll focus on the important role that railroads play every day keeping America strong.
Special events only on Train Day include:
- Live Steam featuring DM&IR locomotive #332
- Speeder rides to the Lenard Draper Maintenance Building for behind the scenes tours
- Engine tours
- Special cars Missabe and Northland open for viewing
- Kids activities
- Hotdogs, popcorn and other concessions
- Railroadania swap meet
Upstairs in the Depot’s Great Hall on Saturday there will be a swap meet. Informational booths featuring clubs, historical societies, model train displays and other area attractions will run all weekend in the Train Museum.
