Create your own dry shampoo with Mix Cosmetiques

Making your own dry shampoo at home

This morning, Lanae from Mix Cosmetics joined Good Morning Northland to show Sierra how to make their own dry shampoo. Viewers can also join a workshop class held by Lanae this weekend to also learn how to make dry shampoo at home.

Dry shampoo can be a lifesaver, especially on busy mornings or when plans pop up out of nowhere. But have you ever thought about making your own? This weekend, there’s a DIY dry shampoo workshop where you can learn how. Lanae from Mix Cosmetiques stopped by GMN this morning to chat about their upcoming event.

Lanae shared, attendees will have the chance to customize their own dry shampoo. During the show, Lanae demonstrated the process by creating a personalized blend for Sierra, showcasing what shoppers can expect at the event.

She began by adding the ingredients, starting with starch to provide volume. Next, she included cocoa powder tailored to Sierra’s dark hair, explaining, “Since you’ve got dark hair, we need some coloring. A little bit of cocoa powder is a great option… and a bit of activated charcoal to darken it up and absorb oil.”

Lanae explains that their dry shampoo products are completely natural, unlike many others on the market. “A lot of dry shampoos are packed with chemicals like butane—stuff you’d find in a camp stove. You definitely don’t want to be ingesting that every day.”

It is $32 for the event, which includes the product itself, and Lanae mentioned that a container can last up to six months. Visitors also have the opportunity to personalize their dry shampoo by choosing from a selection of about 30 different ingredients. “You get to choose from the ingredients that work best for you,” Lanae explains. You can even customize the scent—like Sierra, who picked lavender for hers during today’s GMN segment.

The event takes place at the Mix Cosmetiques shop on Tower Avenue in Superior. Visitors can drop in any time this week—today, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday—from 11 AM to 6 PM to create their own custom dry shampoo.
