Duluthians to Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Duluth Walks to End Alzheimer’s

We all may know someone who has been affected by Alzheimer's. The organizers of the Walk to End Alzheimer's event came into the Good Morning Northland studio to discuss how to show support for those affected by the disease.

The Twin Ports area 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, September 7 at the DECC. Registration will be held at 1:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony held at 2:00 p.m. The walk will immediately follow the opening ceremony.

The walk directly supports local efforts in the fight against Alzheimer’s in the form of funding support groups, the 24/7 help line (800-272-3900), and research.

“It’s a really inspiring day and it’s just one of my favorite events of the year,” explained the event’s Walk Chair Aubrey Hagen. “I have personally used the help line. So, my mom was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s when I was only 21 and I was very overwhelmed and didn’t know what to do. My whole family was just struggling. It was like no one knew what was going on or what to do. I called the hot line and it was the best experience because you immediately get someone who empathizes with you, who knows how to connect you to resources, [and] so I just really encourage anyone’s who’s struggling to know you’re not alone and to please reach out to the association.”
