There’s an old tradition of guessing when the first salty will sail under the Lift Bridge and there’s some nice prizes in the 2024 contest. According to Visit Duluth’s website, they are partnering with the Duluth Seaway Port Authority for the 41st annual First Ship Contest.

If participants correctly guess when the first saltie will sail into the Duluth Port, they could win a prize package of Duluth goods and experiences.

First place will get a package including a Bentleyville USA gift package, a Duluth Huskies gift package, 4 Lake Superior Railroad First Class Dome Car tickets, $100 Grandma’s Restaurant gift certificate, and more.

The winner of last year’s contest was just two minutes off the exact arrival time and was one of 9,273 entries in the contest. Head to the Visit Duluth website to submit your entry before Wednesday, March 20th.
