GMN Performance: Steve Solkela and Kaylee Matuszak
Steve Solkela and Kaylee Matuszak of the Berserk Blondes joined Good Morning Northland for a performance and to discuss their upcoming shows at the Duluth Homegrown Festival.
Iron-Range Steve Solkela meets Duluth musical socialite Kaylee Matuszak in their joint performance using a guitar, an accordion and some powerful vocal harmony. Solkela and Matuszak are working on the debut Berserk Blondes! album, expecting a spring 2024 release. They will be performing together at the Homegrown Festival at the Kom-On-Inn, on Wednesday, May 1st at 8:30 p.m.
Steve Sisu Solkela is a Musician/Comedian/Stuntman/Opera Singer/Actor/Composer known for his non-sensical sense of humor, creative mind, and unpredictable musical combinations. He grew up on the Iron Range and is now based out of Duluth. He studied music at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey where he started out playing the accordion. He then kept adding more instruments to his one man band including cowbell, hi-hat, triangle, bicycle horn and more. Kaylee Matuszak is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. Self-described “loud-mouthed acoustic party girl” Kaylee Matuszak’s admiration of Duluth and Homegrown are apparent in her original songs as well as in her playfully entertaining Twitter feed, “Duluth’s Famous Kaylee.”Stirring Skies, her debut album was released in 2016 and she is currently working on her sophomore album, Leading Lady. You can check out Steve Solkela’s Homegrown Performance on Friday, May 3rd at 6:30 p.m. taking place at the Zeitgeist Teatro. That is an all ages show. Kaylee Matuszak is performing a 21+ show at Earth Rider Brewery Cedar Lounge Taproom on Thursday, May 2nd at 9:15 p.m.
