How to be successful at this year’s Construction Career Fair

Today on Good Morning Northland Dan Olson joins Sierra Naess to chat about the upcoming Liuna Construction Career fair and how attendees can set themselves up for success.

Whether you’re looking for a new career or just exploring fresh opportunities, this is your chance to connect with union contractors and dive into fields like commercial energy and beyond. And if you’re wondering how to stand out in a crowd, we’ve got some expert advice from none other than Dan Olson.

Dan Olson, Business Manager with Labors Local 1091, joined us this morning to share insights on how attendees can make the most of today’s career fair. “The most important part is just taking the initiative to show up,” says Dan. “You’ll be able to meet a variety of contractors, learn about their work, and decide which path you want to take moving forward in the construction industry.”

When asked about what qualities make candidates stand out, Dan highlighted the importance of a strong work ethic. “Construction is construction,” he says, “and when you get on a job site, you’ve got to go to work. Being ready to put in the effort and paying attention to safety is key.”

For those wondering how to navigate the event, Dan offered tips from years of experience. “It’s crucial to have buy-in from the local contractors,” he explains. “With nearly 20 contractors attending, there’s a lot of local opportunity. Plus, there’s a ton of work coming up in the next few years.”

The event takes place at the Radisson Hotel in Duluth from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. today. As Dan put it, “Come down, join us, and have a great afternoon—we hope to put some people to work!”
