Money Matters: What is loud budgeting?
There’s a new trend happening all across social media called loud budgeting, and it’s actually helping people save money.
Barry Bigelow from Great Waters Financial explains that the trend is exactly what it seems. It’s announcing to the world what your budgeting goals are for the month, year, or any period of time. The goals are mostly put out on social media.
This form of budgeting helps you achieve your goals because it creates accountability partners. Bigelow says, “It gives you about a 65% chance of achieving your goals, better than if you don’t have an accountability partner.”
Following up with your budget can go two ways. Barry says, “So social circles being on on a budget means just either you have to be really comfortable saying no and maintaining those friendships without the shared experiences. Or yeah, it is nice to sometimes have friends that you can go out on a Friday night with [if] everybody can afford it and it’s not tight for anybody.”
Overall loud budgeting does lead to more healthy social habits.
