Rubber Chicken Theater’s annual holiday comedy revue
Christmas comedy is back in the Northland once again. Brian Matuszak from Rubber Chicken Theater joined Good Morning Northland to share details about the upcoming shows, bringing laughter back to the Twin Ports.
Matuszak spoke about their two shows coming up, ” It’s original sketch comedy that we write and obviously perform ourselves. We’ve been doing it for a few years, it’s sort of like a local version of Saturday Night Live”.
He also shared how this year’s holiday theme came to be, “Well this year’s theme, the show is called A Christmas Comedy Carol or How I Learned to Stop Scrooging and Keep Laughing, and that came about because of a lot of folks were really burnt our with the political season and just got people feeling really negative about the end of the year”. In fact, Matuszak said the theater even discussed not putting on a Holiday show this year, “We actually thought for a half a second, maybe we don’t wanna do a Christmas show this year. We just don’t feel like laughing but…we need to because the Northland needs to laugh”.
Matuszak encourages Northlanders to celebrate the end of the year with friends, family, and talented local artists coming together for some ‘locally sourced laughs.’ He says it’ll be a perfect way to unwind, connect, and have some fun!
The laughs continue over the next two weekends with “Christmas Comedy Carol, or How I Learned to Stop Scrolling and Keep Laughing,” taking place this Friday and Saturday, as well as next weekend, at 7:30 PM in Studio 4 at the Saint Louis County Depot. Tickets are $25 per person, available via cash or Venmo. To ring in the new year, the “New Year’s Cluckin’ Eve Show” will hit the stage on New Year’s Eve at 7:30 PM in the same location. Tickets for the New Year’s event are $30 per person, also cash or Venmo only, and include chances to win prizes. Tickets can be purchased at the door for both events.
