Tech Bytes: TikTok files emergency motion to delay ban

In today's Tech Bytes: TikTok files an emergency motion to delay its impending ban. Social Media companies could soon be forced to put warning labels on its platforms. Reddit is rolling out its own AI powered search feature.

TikTok is asking the Supreme Court justices to step in. The platform is seeking to stop a U.S. ban against the app from taking effect. The measure calls for China-based ByteDance to sell the app by January 19th. TikTok claims U.S. creators could lose more than one billion dollars in revenue during the first month the ban is enforced.

Social media companies would be required to put warning labels on their platforms under a new bill in California. The bill calls for these labels to disclose risks to mental health and cites anti-online violence and cyberbullying laws as precedent.

Reddit is rolling out its own AI-powered search feature. It’s called “Reddit Answers,” a tool that responds to your questions by generating summarized information from across Reddit without relying on Google.
