Tech Bytes: Trump considers tariff relief for TikTok acquisition
In today's tech bytes, President Trump has suggested lower tariffs on Chinese products if TikTok is sold to a non-Chinese buyer. Then a lawsuit from newspaper companies against OpenAI and Microsoft is allowed to continue.
In today’s Tech Bytes, President Trump is looking to China as he seeks to close a deal on TikTok. Trump says he is willing to reduce tariffs on China in exchange for help facilitating an agreement. The app must be sold to a non-Chinese buyer by April 5th or face a ban in the U.S.
Next, the New York Times and other newspapers can proceed with a copyright lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. The papers want to end the practice of having their stories used to train artificial intelligence chatbots. A federal judge did throw out some of the claims but is allowing the case to move forward.
Finally, more young people than ever say they are struggling with loneliness, adding that dating apps are often worse than their isolation. So now, Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, and most other dating apps are organizing in-person events. The idea is to create more natural, less anxious ways of connecting with others.
