Time Arc Theatre to host new play in Superior

Time Arc Theatre plans to do a show of the production "Let Him Sleep 'Til It's Time for His Funeral," a comedy play of a complete misunderstanding of a surprise birthday party funeral. You can check it out on November 8th-10th or the 15th-17th.

Time Arc Theater in Superior is kicking off its 2024-25 season with the comedy Let Him Sleep ‘Til It’s Time for His Funeral, opening Friday night. Director Kathleen Laakso described the play as a humorous look at age, identity, and mistaken intentions, following a man named John who, upon turning 50, believes his life is over. Depressed and feeling old, John’s wife decides to throw him a surprise party with a unique twist: a “funeral” where guests share heartfelt memories, as they would at an actual memorial.

Laakso explained that the misunderstanding spirals, with John and his neighbors mistakenly thinking a murder might be underway. The comedic mix-up and confusion turn into a lively farce, or “comedy of errors,” as Laakso puts it.

The production was selected as part of the theater’s focus this season on published works. In addition to Let Him Sleep ‘Til It’s Time for His Funeral, Time Arc Theater will feature a musical revue about anniversaries from the 1940s and the classic play 12 Angry Men.

The play will run for six performances over two weekends, starting November 8th, with showings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday both weekends. To celebrate opening night, the theater is offering a special discount for attendees over 50, allowing them to sympathize with John’s milestone birthday. Tickets are available online, by phone, or at the door.

“We’ve got a great cast, and I’m really happy to start our season with some laughs,” Laakso said.
