Where to dump your Christmas tree

Where to dump your late Christmas trees

Still have your Christmas tree set up? Bernard McCarthy from the Twin Ports Trailer Trash center joins Good Morning Northland to help those who need a place to let go of their Christmas trees, along with other unused items.

As the holiday season wraps up, many people in the Northland are looking for ways to dispose of their Christmas trees. For those who kept their tree up through New Year’s, Twin Ports Trailer Trash offers a convenient solution. Today marks the last day to take advantage of their free Christmas tree removal service.

Bernard McCarthy, a representative from Twin Ports Trailer Trash, spoke with Good Morning Northland about the company’s offerings and its efforts to give back to the community.

“We provide full-service junk removal,” McCarthy explained. “Basically, anything anyone needs hauled away, we can take care of it. We also recently opened a new community drop-off center where people can bring items to us.”

McCarthy highlighted the range of situations the company handles, from clearing out old appliances to assisting families downsizing their homes. He noted that their new drop-off center, located at 215 South 37th Avenue West, is also accepting Christmas trees free of charge until the end of January.

“This service helps keep trees out of landfills and repurposes them into usable products,” McCarthy said. “We take the trees to WLSSD (Western Lake Superior Sanitary District), where they’re recycled. It’s a more environmentally friendly option than just discarding them.”

The free removal and drop-off initiative align with Twin Ports Trailer Trash’s mission to give back to the community. McCarthy shared how the team has made the process fun and engaging, even dressing as the Grinch last year to “steal” trees from customers’ homes.

“It’s a slow time of year for us, so this keeps my team busy for a few days,” McCarthy said. “Plus, it’s a great way to bring smiles to people’s faces and do something positive for the environment.”

If you missed the chance for free pickup, you can still drop off your tree at the community center through the end of January. And for anyone with more extensive removal needs, Twin Ports Trailer Trash is ready to help year-round.
