How gardening can improve your gut microbiome
Ready to dig into gardening this spring? Two exciting events are coming up that not only promise to enhance your gardening skills but also show you how gardening can boost your physical and mental health. Bob Olen, horticulturist with St. Louis County, shared details about these upcoming events focused on how gardening enhances well-being.
“Our theme is Better Gardens for a Better Life,” Bob explains. “We’ll explore how gardening impacts health, particularly through the gut microbiome. The fruits and vegetables we grow provide food for gut bacteria, leading to better health.”
The Spring Gardening Extravaganza kicks off Saturday, March 29th, at the Depot in Duluth, followed by the Spring Gardening Spectacular on April 3rd at the Mountain Iron Community Center. Both events feature workshops and professionals discussing topics like the gut-brain connection. “Gardening benefits not just physical health but mental health too,” says Bob.
The events offer a variety of workshops to help improve your gardening skills. “In the afternoon, we’ll have 14 workshops to help you grow a better garden for better health.”
