A chat with Jo Dee Messina before her Chisholm show
Country artist Jo Dee Messina will play at the Minnesota Discovery Center this Friday. It’s one show in the Red Dirt Concert Series.
She said she loves getting to play outside in the summer because it’s a little louder and the stages are bigger.
“I think the best part, what keeps me going the most, is being able to love the fans that show up at the show. I mean, we have fun,” Messina said.
She is writing a lot of music these days and said she’s simply inspired by life.
“what inspires me mostly is life. You know, “I wrote a song that’s doing incredibly well live,” she said. “We’re going to record it called ‘Let Me Love You,’ and that was a song I wrote for my son, who’s 15. And anyone that has a 15-year-old knows how fun that is.”
She’s collaborating and songwriting with artists like Tyler Hubbard. But the Friday concert will be all about Jo Dee and the northern Minnesota crowd.
“They’re going to hear their hits, they’re going to hear a few covers we threw in there. We put a fun little medley together where they have to sing. They can expect to be involved in the show. They have to sing,” she said. “And maybe one or two new songs.”
The Dryes from Season 22 of “The Voice” will open for her. Find ticket information here.
