A local photographer’s draw to Duluth
When Outside Magazine called Duluth “the best town in America” in 2014, Tanner Hermes was sold.
“In the search for trying to find a place that matched the lifestyle we had in Seattle, ran across an article in Outside Magazine where Duluth was rated the best outdoor town in America,” Hermes said.
He and his wife moved to the city in 2017. He picked up a photography hobby during the pandemic and now is one of Destination Duluth’s top contributing photographers.
“I love a Lake Superior sunrise as much as anybody, but my favorite things are the more obscure. The Milky Way photos at night in pitch black middle of nowhere, the Northern Lights just because they’re so fleeting,” he said.
“I always say that photographers see things that we don’t,” Jerry Thoreson of Destination Duluth said. “They have this unique ability and gift, many times.”
