August is Make a Will Month
A will is one part of an overall estate plan that everyone should have to provide clarity for your loved ones.
August is Make a Will Month, and estate attorney Amy Kuronen encourages people to follow suit.
Kuronen says a will is simply a legal document that conveys how someone wants their assets distributed after their death.
There are two benefits to having a will:
- It ensures your wishes and intentions are followed.
- You provide direction and clarity for the loved ones who survive you.
Pretty much every adult should have a will, but Kuronen particularly encourages parents with minor children to get this done because it will identify the person designated to raise your children should both parents die.
Without a will, the state will determine how to allocate assets.
Kuronen will be part of a “Death Cafe” at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Kitchi Gammi Club.
