Building a Hot Toddy Bar

Building a Hot Toddy Bar

Twin Cities Live's Elizabeth Ries shares her special recipe for a cozy, Hot Toddy.

Elizabeth Ries, host of Twin Cities Live, shared the perfect ingredients for a Hot Toddy Bar at any holiday gathering.

“This is such a perfect drink thing, particularly in the Northland because of course, we know that it’s cold,” Ries said. “But I also feel like in the Northland, you all are embracing cozy pretty much better than anybody else.”

She says it “couldn’t be simpler.”

“I think the trick is, though, you do want to use good quality, flavorful honey, and you want to use a good whiskey because it’s sort of like anything,” Ries said. “There’s not a ton of extra sugar and stuff to mask it. You want to have some good flavors.”

Basic Hot Toddy:

  • 6 oz hot water
  • 1 oz whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Juice of one small lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
