Building healthy habits with Progress Over Perfect Coaching

Losing the summer weight

The start of school is a great time to get back to healthy habits by focusing on the 3 R's. Refocus, Routine, and be Real.

While the summer season is coming to an end, but this time of year can be a great time to start some new healthy habits. Jaime Jensen from Progress over Perfect Coaching taught us a few ways to keep active and healthy all year round.

Jensen described a few activities to add to a daily routine that can help feed a healthy lifestyle. They include:

  • Drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day
  • Getting at least seven hours of sleep a night
  • Find ways to move your body throughout the day to maintain mental and physical health
  • Make plans for your food both throughout the day and throughout the week
  • Listen to your body about what it needs

She also described how you can prepare for these habits by going on a healthy shopping spree. Jensen suggests buying supplies that help organize your lifestyle, such as:

  • Water bottle
  • Workout clothes and shoes
  • Cute/trendy Tupperware for food preparation
  • Journal or notebook
  • Pens/markers
  • Sticky notes

Jensen said that linking your new habits with ones you already have may help mold your schedule. She lists filling your water bottle while you make your morning coffee as an example. She says another good trick is while you unload your groceries, portion your grab-and-go bags for the week while you put your food away.

Jensen noted that just like kids, it is important to keep yourself on a routine schedule when building healthy habits. She also says to give yourself grace as you’re learning your new habits. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
