Burnett Dairy Cheese gets high mark

Burnett Dairy Company gets high marks at U.S. Cheese Championship

Burnett Dairy Company is celebrating high marks in the U.S. Cheese Championship.

Cheesemakers from all over the country traveled to Green Bay in early March to compete to be the best of the best.

The Wood River Creamery Gouda Gruyere took home both gold and silver, solidifying its reputation as a rising star in the specialty cheese market.

“It’s a fusion of two,” Master cheesemaker explained to The Lift. “We do that with cultures. The cultures are from the Netherlands. That’s where gouda comes from, where it was birthed. We used traditional gouda cultures in gruyere.”

It competes in the hard cheese category, rather than gouda because of this.

Burnett Dairy Co. cheese bread, provolone, and mozzarella also earned high marks.
