Duluth got cheesier with arrival of Burnett Dairy store

The Wisconsin company, Burnett Dairy has opened a store in Duluth. Burnett Dairy is farmer-owned.

Cheese lovers in Duluth can now indulge in their favorite dairy delights. Burnett Dairy Cooperative opened a store at the base of Spirit Mountain right next to the Ski Hut Adventure Center.

The Wisconsin company is known for its award-winning cheeses. Vice President of Retail Operations, Jame Swan told The Lift,”People from Grantsburg know our cheese, but then people who are new to our company are excited to see all the cheeses we have in our store.”

Master Cheesemaker Bruce Willis says that crafting a good cheese starts with quality milk. He’s been making cheese for 48 years. Burnett Dairy Cooperative is farmer-owned. In 2008, Bruce made one of the co-operative’s most popular cheeses: the Wood River Creamery Cheddar Gruyere.

Cheese is the main event at the store, but you can also grab ice cream. Plus, there’s also a fully operation bistro so guests can enjoy pizza and other appetizers.

The store is open from Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
