Checking out Drury Lane Books in Grand Marais
In 2002 Joan Drury established the bookstore known as Drury Lane in Grand Marais, which has now garnered attention from the locals who live in Grand Marais and the people who come to visit.
It’s curated book selection and cozy interior is part of the reason who so many readers come back to pick up new books from there.
“It’s wonderful to have a bookstore that a reader can walk into and have a curated collection,” says General Manager Gwen Danfelt, “We have about 5,000 books in the store, so there is still a lot to choose from but I’ve narrowed it down from the 9 million titles that are in print and I have tried to come up with a really diverse collection a little bit of everything.”
In 2020 the founder of Drury Lane, Joan Drury, passed away. Joan’s two kids Kelly and Kevin Kager assumed leadership of the store. You can find more information on the bookstore here.
Drury Lane also has a vast selection of Minnesota books, whether it be fiction or non-fiction. Joan was actually a an author, an editor, a publisher of Spinster’s Ink, founder of Norcroft: A Writing Retreat for Women, a feminist, a philanthropist, a friend, a mother, and a force of nature in Cook County.
Right now Gwen Danfelt is recommending the book “To Shape a Dragon’s Breath” which you can read more about here.
