Duluth Black business owners to travel to the Cities for Black Entrepreneurs Day
Black entrepreneurs from Minnesota are gearing up to head over to the Minnesota State Capitol Monday, February 3rd for Black Entrepreneurs Day.
The day connects Black business owners directly with Minnesota State Legislators that represent them.
You can still sign up for the rally, meet with legislators, and to have lunch down there through the link here.
This will be the third year that this has taken place and entrepreneurs from Duluth have really made the most out of the whole experience.
Organizer of Black Entrepreneurs Day, Sheletta Brundidge says, “The Duluth business owners came in like, ‘What’s going on? What do you have for me? What’s coming down the pipe? What’s the deadline?’ And they really empowered us!”
She mentions that often times people think that this day is about asking for money, but really it’s about creating real change with your local representatives.
For Duluthians that Sheletta has talked to, she says there’s often a disconnect from Duluth and the Capitol. “A lot of times… access is not there, information is not there. And so by the time the business owners in Duluth find out about the grants or the loans that we didn’t know existed, it’s in the newspaper. We missed a deadline,” she says.
From this event Sheletta mentions that business owners have been able to get legislation passed to help their businesses become more successful, and it’s all through that one-on-one connection.
