Duluth Butcher competing for $25,000 in the Qualifier Meat Cutting Competition

In Texas Roadhouse’s Qualifier Meat Cutting Competition, one Duluth butcher is getting ready to compete for a grand prize of $25,000 dollars.

Dan Willeck is currently in Texas where the meat cutting competition takes place. He’s been in the top twelve out out the entire country 6 times now.

Each participant receives 20-30 pounds of beef, consisting of one sirloin, one filet and one ribeye to cut.  Meat cutters are judged on quality and yield in this timed cut-off. The winner is based on the cutter who yields the most steaks with the highest quality.

“It’s a big deal! They treat us like kings, it’s great. Free trips, and it’s big motivation to keep getting better. And I want that title of Meat Cutter of the Year before I’m done,” says Dan.

The competition takes place on January 16th all the say down in Texas.
