Duluth family buys hotel on St. Croix

The Bremmer family is heading to St. Croix to renovate and rebrand a boutique hotel.

The Bremers are trading gales of November for tropical breezes.

Martha and Doug Bremer and their kids are on their way to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they bought a small hotel on St. Croix.

The couple met working in hospitality at the Inn on Lake Superior and even after career changes dreamed of working together again and running their own hotel.

Martha said they’ve been looking for a property for around 10 years and are so excited to make a home for their family and guests on St. Croix.

“It’s got this amazing, laid-back vibe between St. Thomas is very touristy and St. John is very nature-oriented,” Martha said. “And it’s kind of this perfect meld of both.”

She said there are also tons of entrepreneurs.

“There’s actually been kind of a little bit of a boutique boom on that island as well. And they’re calling it that it’s going to be the boutique island of the Caribbean. And we really want to be a part of that,” she said.

The 15-room property is currently called the Arawak Bay Inn, but the Bremers plan to renovate and rebrand it. Then they want to offer some kind of promotional discounts for Duluthians and Midwesterners.
