Exploring the world of black bears at the North American Bear Center
The North American Bear Center in Ely, Minnesota is officially open for another season. As bears across the Northland are waking up from hibernation.
Holly, Lucky, and Tasha are the three ambassador bears at the center. Visitors can watch as the bears go about their normal routines.
You can find out more information about the bear center on their website.
Even though Lucky is the biggest bear at the North American Bear Center, in the bear world the females are in charge. And at the center Holly is the main bear in charge.
All of the black bears have a very vegetarian diet. Eating mostly nuts, fruits, and other produce.
The center says even though bears tend to be an elusive animal they are all over the Northland. And their goal is to teach the public more about them so they are prepared if they run into them in the wild.
