Farmers Markets and food access
With Farmers Market season in full swing, the Lincoln Park one will host a special celebration next week.
Kayla Pridmore, who directs the Seeds of Success program through Community Action Duluth, said Lincoln Park was selected to represent the state of Minnesota’s National Farmers Market Week celebration.
“We’re going to have a community meal, we’ll have kids’ games, we’ll have some speakers,” she said.
National Farmers Market Week runs from Aug. 4-10, and the Lincoln Park market goes from 3-6 p.m. every Thursday.
“I think farmers markets do a few things for a community. Of course they keep money local, they keep money in our neighbors’ pockets,” Pridmore said. “They’re also just an amazing place to gather. We see people that we might not have seen all winter long.”
Some of her favorite in-season items are carrots, beets, and garlic.
