Bowlz N’ Thangz is one of the newer food trailers on the Twin Ports roving kitchen scene. The 2024 season is their first full run serving, well, bowls and other things.

“I always wanted to do food. I love cooking. And then I was like, let’s do a food truck for retirement, right?” Sarah Hovis said. “And then we were like, we should probably just do it now. Life’s too short.”

Hovis and her partner Amanda Mathiason bought the truck, developed a menu, and started serving around the Twin Ports in September 2023.

“I like a little bit more diverse food. So I like Asian fusion. I like Indian. I like a lot of Latin flavors,” Hovis said.

The best seller is their Bang Bang Shrimp Bowl, flash-fried shrimp served on a bed of jasmine rice with cucumber, avocado, black sesame seeds, and bang bang sauce.

You have to say the name, Bowlz N’ Thangz, with a little bit of twang.

“And we went with that name because we want just a variety of food. So it’s just been great having that name and doing whatever we want,” Mathiason said.

The trailer is at Bent Paddle every Saturday, some of the cideries on Thursdays, and serves lunch at places like Kolar Toyota and Volkswagen of Duluth during the week.

They post a menu and their location on Facebook, Instagram, and the Food Truck Tracker.
