Four foundational elements for nervous system health

What does a healthy nervous system look like?

There are four foundational elements for building and maintaining a healthy nervous system.

“A healthy nervous system is a nervous system that has a stress response that meets the level of the stressor,” Amelia Chapman from Mind Body Amore said.

The four foundations are:

  • Water/salt/minerals: “Our nervous system in general is an electrical system in the body. It’s a communication system. And so water conducts electricity. And so making sure we’re well-hydrated as well as ensuring that there is good mineral balance because the minerals actually create a higher level of conductivity.”
  • Sleep: “When we’re sleeping, that’s when our system is actually resetting itself and detoxing. And we actually process and release emotions while we’re sleeping as well.”
  • Nutrition: “A well-balanced diet is a well-balanced nervous system. Food is the first step for regulation, honestly. So there’s activating foods. There’s deactivating, depressing-type foods.”
  • Sunlight: “When we wake up, when we see the sun, that’s our body’s signal that, ‘Oh, it’s daytime. It’s time to make energy. It’s time to produce hormones. And so when we wake up in the morning, we should really try to get into the sunlight just so then our body gets those signals.”
