The folks at Sacred Heart are excited to welcome a renowned pianist to the Duluth venue Saturday.
Nachito Herrera will play a concert at 7 Saturday night. He is a Cuban-born “piano virtuoso.” He now lives in Minnesota.
“Sacred Heart is just such a beautiful place to hear piano music,” Mark Nicklawske, who is on the Sacred Heart Board of Directors, said. “And I mean, he’s just a piano master. And what he’s going to do on the piano … you don’t hear it every day, you know? It’s just such an exquisite form of music. Latin jazz on piano is something you really can’t replicate. It’s something you have to hear live.”
He will be performing “Gershwin meet Lecuona,” a tribute to American George Gershwin and Cuban Ernesto Lecuona.
“I think it’s just going to be fun for everybody because he’s such a talent and a showman,” Nicklawske said. “I just think if you like classical music, if you like jazz music, if you like Latin music, come and see Nachito perform here. It’s a real rare experience to have him here on our stage.”
Herrera has won two Grammy Awards out of four nominations. Former President Barack Obama also presented him with the American Heritage Award.
Tickets are $30 and available online or at Globe News in Superior and the Zenith Bookstore in Duluth. Tickets at the door will cost $35.
