Ice Fishing 101 with the Boulder Lake ELC
The Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center encourages people to get outdoors in every season. This Saturday, they’re hosting an Ice Fishing 101 class.
“It’s a family-friendly experience where we go over all the basics you need to ice fish in the Northland,” Program Coordinator Caleb Weiers said. “We overgo the history, some of the ice safety out there, which is always important, and then just kind of the basic clothing and the gear you need – on a budget as well.”
Everyone will make a DIY jigging stick to take home.
Ice Fishing 101 goes from 11-2 Saturday, Jan. 13. All fishing gear is provided. Registration is required. It costs $10 per person or $25 for groups of 3-4.
Weiers said they started the winter with about 10 inches of ice before the warmup, but now they’re back to 8 inches.
He also recommends the Tracks and Traces snowshoe program at Boulder Lake and suggests checking out the winter camping options and cross country ski trails.
