This type of snake is a ground dweller in the savannah or plains of Africa. The ball python gets its name because it rolls into a ball as a defense mechanism.
Oliver helps zoo keepers teach others about snakes, most importantly how they move without legs.
There are 4 types of snake locomotion.
Serpentine: side to side motion where the snake will anchor a part of its body to push forward.
Concertina: The snake coils itself and propels itself forward.
Sidewinding: The snake waves itself sideways to move ahead.
Rectilinear: The snake moves its hundreds of ribs individually to move forward.
