In Otter News: Painting with Malkia the Lion
Enrichment is very important in a zoo animal’s life. It’s the same as how people try do something different every once in awhile. Malkia the lion at the Lake Superior Zoo likes paint.
Her keeper Hannah Remington tapes paper onto the floor and add blobs f paint on the outside. She then used a high value reward like chicken to get Malkia to pace back and forth near the fence, spreading paint with her paws.
“I like to think of Malkia as spunky,” Hannah tells us. “Quite honestly. She’s just got she’s got a lot of personality. She’s definitely a traditional cat in the sense that she does everything on her own terms and at her own pace, which is great.”
This piece will be on display and up for sale at the “Toast to Tails” fundraising gala. This all new event features food, drinks, and music.
