A vet’s perspective on the 2025 Beargrease
With little snow this year, the Beargrease vet teams were hard at work making sure the dogs were staying safe.
A team of veterinarians, led by Kate Neshek, takes care of the sled dogs throughout the Beargrease.
With little snow on the course, the safety of the canine athletes was a top priority. Luckily, there were no unusual injuries throughout the 2025 race. Neshek told The Lift, “We were worried about the temperatures. We were worried about the trails. The mushers blew it out of the water and took such good care of their dogs.”
The dogs burn about 10,000 calories each day running in the Beargrease. So they are constantly snacking and fueling up for the course.
