Local designer turns old playbills into a stunning Singing with the Stars outfit
Friday, the Duluth Playhouse’s 3rd annual Singing with the Stars brought local celebrities out for a night of live performances to raise money for the organization.
With 11 contestants performing and three judges, CRAVE by Carli Rae Vergamini put her sewing skills to the test as she created a look for WDIO’s Kenny Johnson made out of old playbills.
All the playbills that were used were Playhouse playbills collected since 2021’s ‘Xanadu’, which was their first show back out of the pandemic. The front embellishment is made of bio pages featuring actors across all 4 years of the Duluth Playhouse.
The train was constructed from plastic. Carli was able to cut and sew panels into the plastic that acted as pockets to put the 21 playbill covers inside of.

Carli says the embellishment/broach was a combination of hand sewing and hot glue that was then pinned on to the black mock-neck sweater.
