Talking with the filmmakers behind ‘An Adventure of My Father’

A new documentary follows a man as he bikes from Duluth all the way to Utah.

A new documentary follows a young man as he bikes from Duluth all the way to Utah in memory of his late father. It’s called “An Adventure for My Father.”

“As I moved into adulthood, I wanted to find some way to connect with him,” cyclist Eli Beech Brown told the lift. “A way that made sense to me was to have a shared experience. And I found copying his bike trip and his route allowed me to have a shared experience with him, even without doing it with him.”

The film’s producer Miles Goldman went to the University of Richmond with Eli while he was dreaming up the trip. They threw around the idea of making a documentary at the time, but it took a few years to actualize the idea.

Brown is hoping the film will help others who find themselves position to move through grief, “When my dad died I didn’t have many pieces of media that I thought were accurate portrayals of what it’s like to grieve as a young person.”

Duluth takes center stage at the beginning of the documentary from the Lakeside neighborhood, to Brighton, and the Lakewalk. The film premieres to a private Duluth audience on Friday.
