Newfoundland dogs take over Bayfront Festival Park for the week
From May 13-18, the Newfoundland Club of America National Specialty Showcase is taking over Bayfront Festival Park, with close to 550 Newfoundland dogs attending.
This is the first time this showcase has come to Duluth. The week is full of events that test the Newfoundland’s skills and obedience. But mostly the week is about building community.
“This is kind of our annual convention of Newfoundland lovers,” says Show Chair Susan Wagner. The event is free to the public. They ask that you don’t bring your dog to the event however.

As for what draws these owners to Newfoundland breed, it’s the gentleness that comes along with these gentle giants. Susan says, “They are just a large impressive [dog]… It’s just the temperament of the dog. They are just very laid back, very calm and loving. For example they are great with kids.”
Over all the Newfoundland Club of America National Specialty Showcase acts as a reunion for the members who sometimes only see each other once a year.
