Preparing to move into college

Soon students will be moving into the dorms and campus apartments. It’s a lot of work, but all it takes is some planning to make the experience smoother.
Jeremy Leiferman, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Life at UMD, shares the items to pack and leave behind, as well at what to expect on move in day.
What to Bring:
- Bedding – likely twin XL
- Shower Caddy & Shoes
- Extension Cords
- Decorations & Wall adhesives
- Refrigerator / Microwave
- Bed risers, storage bins
- Suite / Apartment Items, if applicable
- Kitchen items like dishes, pots, utensils
- Bathroom items like toilet paper and cleaning supplies
What to Leave:
- Appliances that aren’t allowed at your school
- Candles / incense
- Weapons
- Cannabis
Preparing for Move-In:
- Connecting with your roommate(s)
- Check institutional policies around what is allowed
- Understand move-in process, getting the where and when
- Develop family plan for move-in day
