Quilting ministry donates Peace Quilts to police and sheriff

Church group donates Peace Quilts to DPD and Sheriff

The quilts will be carried by officers and deputies and given to kids when they respond to an incident in which a child could use some comfort.

The quilting ministry at Duluth’s Lakeview Covenant Church expanded their mission Tuesday morning.

The ladies have made quilts for oncology and end-of-life patients at Essentia for awhile, but this was the first time they brought some to the Duluth Police Department and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers and deputies will carry the quilts and some handmade pillows in the trunks of their cruisers to give to kids when they respond to an incident in which a child could use some comfort.

“We call them peace quilts, P-E-A-C-E, with the idea that they go into the vehicle cars and hopefully won’t need them,” Marlys Stainbrook said, “but if they do, they’ll be there for them.”

Stainbrook and others brought 25 quilts to the DPD and five to the sheriff’s office.
