Recipe: Make your own bubbles

Two young scientists from Grand Rapids shared a recipe to make bubbles at home this summer.
Recipe:
- 1 cup of water
- 2 tbsp of dish soap
- 1 tbsp of glycerin
Mix the ingredients until they are well combined.
Paige and Adam Jacobson explained the science all comes down to molecules in water.
“These molecules like to stick together in the cup. But this makes a problem for blowing bubbles since you can’t blow bubbles in the water since the molecules are all stuck together,” Paige said. “So if you add the soap, this makes the molecules slippery, and they won’t stick together as well.”
Adding corn syrup or glycerin, Adam said, makes bigger and stronger bubbles.
For a wand, they suggest bending a pipe cleaner or use one from an old bubble kit.
