On Tower Avenue in Superior, one restaurant is using a breakfast staple to bring joy to customers.
Superior Waffles is owned by husband and wife Duo Cal and Natalie Harris. They say their business has really taken off.
“Business has been booming. The weekends are bananas”, says Natalie.
Superior Waffles was born on a road trip getaway during the pandemic where the duo conceptualized their design for the business.
Natalie says, “We brainstormed, got ideas, and thought, ‘let’s just do waffles instead of coffee.’”
They also were determined to open their business in Superior from the get-go.
Cal says, “When we first started, that was one of our goals and plans was to be in the Twin Ports and be in Superior. We lived in Superior almost 20 years and it’s just been something that we wanted to provide our community.”
The restaurant also aims to help out local vendors in the Twin Ports too. “We use a local food vendor and we try and use local as much as possible”, says Natalie.
Superior Waffles has a total of 14 specialty waffles and they even have a build your own option too. Part of the fun of working at the restaurant is to see what people come up for their waffles.
Natalie says, “It’s funny to kind of see different people’s build your own. It’s kind of like ‘ooh I might try this’ and some are like ‘ooh I don’t know about this but I hope tastes good.’”
But what really makes Natalie and Cal the most grateful is to see how their waffles impacts the community in a positive way. “We’ve come a long way, both just in the space, ourselves, and the business. It’s just been a learning experience… We’ve met so many awesome customers that are regulars. And they’re kind of like family,”
