Summer fun at camp with the YMCA
Camp starts soon, and there is still time to sign up with The Y. Your kid may qualify for a scholarship.
The Duluth Area YMCA offers two day camps, which are located at North Star Academy and Hermantown Essentia Wellness Center, for those who live in the Duluth Area
YMCA Executive Director Emily Ranta mentions Camp Miller as another option, “That actually is a residential camp. That’s an extra special treat for kids in the Summer. The goal there is to head to camp, unplug for the week, meet new friends.”
A zipline was added to the Sturgeon Lake camp just last Summer.
“I think the biggest thing that you see at a residential camp, and I’ll speak more to that, is the immersive nature,” Emily says. “You’re going for a week. You’re putting yourself out there. You’re able to be who you are as a kid.”
Camp Talls Pines is also gearing up for another camp season on Lake Nebagamon. Director Nathaniel Ballard told The Lift about some of its programming, “We swim everyday. We get to canoe and kayak. We have a lot of field games planned for the kids.” In addition to arts and crafts.”
“For both Camp Miller and Camp Tall Pines, we have lots of scholarships available for kids who are signing up for camp. We are seeing lower numbers, but we’re also excited to afford more kids the opportunity to be out at camp with the scholarships we have.”
