From the “third space” in the Historic Ely State Theater, Jacob White, executive director, shares an exciting new purpose for the building: “The End of the Road Film Festival.”
“The theater was built in the 1930s but recently was renovated by a family in town that owns some of the properties in Ely and a lot off the hard work,” Jacob tell us .
The idea for the film festival from the state theater board. “We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Back in 2015, when they first started looking into renovating the space. The board members we so excited about the potential and opportunities that this space would provide to be a hub for Ely and the surrounding areas. They thought about adding live music, theater, and maybe even a film festival.
“For me I was so inspired the momentum and growth of the film industry in Northern Minnesota, and that’s how I decided to pursue the grants that we’ve gotten to put this event on. “
Film makers from over 30 films, will be coming- representing both homegrown and national films. Expect panels, featured, films and workshops.
They’re hoping that public will join them February 9th – 12th. Tickets are available for purchase on their website.
