The science of soaring kites
It's a homemade science lesson from Paige and Adam Jacobson.
When siblings Paige and Adam Jacobson couldn’t catch anything fishing, they decided to convert their poles into kites.
And because they love science, they always incorporate a little learning into their play.
“It’s all about physics. Forces like lift, weight, drag, and thrust,” Adam said about the science of kites.
The lift pushes the kite into the air.
“The drag is the force of the wind pushing on the kite. This depends on the wind speed and the density. We can run with the kite to help lift it,” Adam said.
Adding drag and weight to a kite will keep it from tipping.
