Three things for women to know before starting a business

Did you know that 32% of businesses in Minnesota are women owned. We take a look at what's needed to start a business.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Survey of Business Owners, 32 percent of Minnesota businesses are women-owned.

Stacy Crawford has one of them, Klear Water Coaching & Wellness. She shared three key things that she thinks every woman should know before starting a business:

  • Own your value: “As a woman, it has been hard for me to notice the value in all of the things that I do, in the wealth of knowledge and information that I bring because I’m a woman and because I’ve navigated a lot of those experiences, some of those not so fun and not so easy too. But all of that – my own education, my work experience, my lived experience – all then becomes the wealth that I bring to my business.”
  • Build your support system: “Who are the 12 people that are on your cheer team? It doesn’t have to be 12. But who are the folks that you are going to surround yourself with who are going to support you? Because … there’s a lot of uncertainty. And so who are the people in my life that might be able to hold me up a little bit when I’m going through those natural periods?”
  • Prioritize yourself: “As I think about how women are socialized and at least how, for me, how I was socialized, it was always about putting everybody before me. And that’s a long list of people.”

Stacy says for a woman with entrepreneurial aspirations, a Discovery Call with a coach is a great place to start.
