The Richard Bong Museum celebrates the life and legacy of Major Bong- from his military service to his tragic death- it’s also a love story with his wife Marge. The museums’ curator, Briana Fiandt brought a scrapbook made by Marge herself.
“This is a primary resource. This is from Marge’s own hand. All these notations are in her writing so you get sort of a whole walk through of their relationship as they’re courting and getting married. It’s very special,” Briana tells us.
Inside it you can find souvenirs from their life together: from menus of the restaurants they went to together… to tickets to Nor Shore theater. She took snippings of newspaper articles about her husband- and later in life she collect one about herself. “She became famous too after Bong put her picture on his plane.”
“One of the most common questions we get is ‘What happened to Marge?’ So we’re creating an exhibit to answer that question.”
Escape the Bong is coming back too. “It’s our fifth year. We’ve got two of the old rooms back, as well as two brand new rooms. One of those is Bong related. You crash in the South Pacific and you have to escape.”
