What’s Brewing: Dream Cloud’s dream location
From downtown to slowed down, Dream Cloud Coffee Roasters has landed in its dream location along the North Shore.
Their last day in downtown Duluth was just before Christmas in 2023, and the new spot along Scenic Hwy 61 near Larsmont opened in early May 2024.
“Me and my husband have always actually wanted to live up the North Shore. Didn’t think it would actually be a reality to live and have a business,” Emily Comnick said. “We had an opportunity and we totally took it and ran with it. And we’re here.”
Dream Cloud is in the former Mocha Moose space. The Comnicks painted, renovated, and made the roasting machine a centerpiece of the dining area.
“A lot of people who know us really well come into this space, and they say, ‘This feels like your home.’ Like, ‘This feels like your house.’ And it is,” Emily said. “This is what our house would feel like, this is what it would look like.”
Along with a coffee and tea menu, they sell coffee beans, fresh-milled flour, handmade ceramics, and more in a retail section.
Charlie Comnick roasts coffee every Thursday while Emily preps the bakery case. They open the shop Friday-Sunday.
“It’s kind of hard not to be drawn in by the North Shore. You’re next to Lake Superior. The fact that we have an outdoor space too is really lovely. We both love to garden, so that’s been something we’ve been working on and want to grow that,” Emily said.
